Meet Us!
Hey. We’re Ryan and Sam. We met in 2024 and instantly clicked over our love of the outdoors, our lifelong dreams to own an off-grid homestead in Northern Ontario, and our fierce independence – not wanting to be relying on others, the government, etc. for survival.
Homesteading is quite expensive, so while we save up to buy land, we spend our summers in our 19-foot travel trailer and typically spend our winters in Airbnb’s.
Meet Our Rig
Our rig is a 19-foot 2001 Prowler Lynx 723c. When we bought this beauty, the back area that we think used to be a kitchen table or perhaps some bunk beds had been converted into a desk – perfect, since Sam works full-time on the road as video game producer.
We purchased the trailer in April 2025 for $3500 CAD in Quebec, Canada. The previous owners sold it to us with everything inside included, so we scored some freebie kitchen supplies! We also, unfortunately, scored a leaking roof we didn’t know about and some hack-job electrical wiring. Both of these freebies were discovered when (1) it started raining above our door one random Tuesday, and (2) when we were at a Provincial Park and our battery started to quite literally sizzle… but that’s a story for another day perhaps!
We made some small visual improvements to our 2-decades-old trailer: painting the wood-grain cupboards, the propane tank cover, and the front face of the trailer. We also removed the wood our bed sat on, adding hinges for some under-the-bed storage.
Our trailer was towed by a 2008 Land Rover LR2 for 2025. Unfortunately, that beast of an SUV met the end of her days in December 2025. She was then replace by a 2011 Ford F-150 4×4 with a 5.0L coyote engine.
Our Gear and Setup
In addition to the standard amenities you get with a trailer (running water, heat, fridge, light, etc.), we also tow a Champion 3000W gas generator, an Ecoflow Delta 2 Max for power storage, a 15.5′ Coleman canoe, a Hitabay paddleboard, two 300W portable solar panels, and two 25L gas containers for emergencies.
Our truck bed has a hard-top tonneau cover that has a built-in lock. Inside the truck bed, we store our tools, roadside emergency items, firewood, camping gear, fishing gear, life jackets, and anything else we’d need quick access to when disconnected from the trailer.
